In a surprising crossover event that challenges conventional forecasts, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering free additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Disclosed

According to the formal release, "An unusual meeting leads heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where whispers of banned rituals and fearsome metamorphoses reverberate through the shadows." The narrative features a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a hidden cult.

The adventure focuses on "strange trials and a monstrous foe" and is accessible to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Iconic Settings and Changes

The preview showcases the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The preview finishes with a striking moment showing a character, presumably the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Rewards and Extra Features

Players who finish the mission will obtain an unique katana in addition to several objects concealed throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also includes premium Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Unique arms
• Survey Corps mount

Third Free Story Addition

This update also brings the game's third complimentary story addition, titled "The Mystery." This playful adventure partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange distinctive techniques: Naoe debuts a theatrical interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a fresh environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Previous Japanese Animation Partnerships

This marks hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with popular anime franchises. The series earlier featured a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that obviously referenced the popular series One-Punch Man.
